People who suffer from chronic sinusitis have a new treatment option – a breakthrough surgery being performed at North Central Baptist Hospital in Stone Oak by Anthony Sertich, M.D.
Here's how it works.Dr. Sertich, a board certified Otolaryngologist, is one of only 40 physicians in the country currently trained to perform the procedure. Here’s how it works. The Acclarent Stratus Microflow spacer is a device that is implanted in the sinuses via a catheter. Once in place, the spacer delivers a fluid steroid that shrinks swelling in the area. The medication fights inflammation over a two week period, after which the device is removed. Traditional surgery involves removing tissue in the area which can cause pain and scarring. The Microflow spacer leaves the anatomy intact, delivering medicine which opens the passageway naturally so that topical medicines can reach the formerly blocked passageway.
