Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family of Dr. Michael Sanchez, 52, who was struck by an SUV while jogging alongside Bandera Road near Stonecroft on Sunday, January 11, 2009. He was not able to recover and died shortly thereafter.

Sanchez was the Emergency Department Chief of Service at Southeast Baptist Hospital from October 2003 to June 2005. He went on to serve at University Hospital's Emergency Room where he made great strides in reducing patient waiting times.

A retiree from the Air Force, Sanchez, received his medical degree from the University of New Mexico and moved to San Antonio to serve his internship and residency at Wilford Hall.

Sanchez is survived by wife Apelle Sanchez, and two daughters Carla Parker, 30, and Suzanne Sanchez, 24, and son-in-law Jim Parker. His medical contributions to the city will be greatly missed.

Services will be held Wednesday, January 14, at Oak Hills Mortuary.
