Restorative "Incisionless" Obesity Surgery
The Baptist Center for Weight Loss is the only Weight Loss Center in South Texas offering the latest in gastric bypass revision surgery. ROSE, Restorative Obesity Surgery Endoscopic, is an incisionless procedure that allows gastric bypass patients to start losing weight again.
Most gastric bypass patients lose a significant amount of weight after surgery and are able to keep it off. However it is estimated that up to 20% of patients experience weight regain a few years after their bypass surgery.
A number of studies suggest that patients regain weight due to the gradual enlargement of the surgically altered small stomach pouch and stoma, (connection between the stomach and small intestine). I t is believed that when the stomach pouch and stoma gradually enlarge, the feeling of fullness is no longer present, patients can eat larger meals, and weight regain occurs. When the stomach and stoma become enlarged, they no longer effectively restrict food intake or reduce hunger sensations.

The ROSE Procedure: Restoration of the Gastric Pouch and Stoma |
What is the ROSE procedure?
The Restorative "Incisionless" Obesity Surgery is an incisionless surgical procedure that restores the size of the stomach pouch close to the original post-surgery proportions. The procedure is performed entirely through the mouth without making any external incisions into the body. Watch the video.
Who is eligible for the ROSE procedure?
Patients who were originally successful losing weight following Gastric Bypass and now find themselves regaining weight may be ideal candidates for this procedure. After an initial screening, you will undergo a series of evaluations including nutritional and dietary counseling, a full medical exam and endoscopy to determine if you are a good candidate.
What does the procedure entail?
The surgeon advances a four-channel flexible tube and a small endoscope through the patient’s mouth, into the stomach pouch. The surgeon will then insert the surgical tools through the channels of the tube. Tissue anchors are used to create multiple tissue folds around the stoma to reduce the diameter. The surgeon will then use the same technique to place anchors in the stomach pouch to reduce its volume.
Benefits of the ROSE procedure
The procedure is endoscopic and involves no external cuts or incisions. It reduces the risk of infection and associated complications. The procedure is usually performed on an outpatient basis. There is less post-operative pain, faster recovery time, and no abdominal scars. Typically patients return to normal activity within a few days of their procedure.
