Baptist is the first health system to bring medical services to the Westover area with the June opening of the Westover Baptist Medical Office Building. Baptist M&S Imaging is the anchor tenant in the building and features all the latest and best imaging technology available for the diagnosis and treatment of disease and injury. The office building, located at 3903 Wiseman, also provides space for primary care physicians wishing to bring medical care to people living in west Bexar County. Trip Pilgrim, president and CEO of Baptist Health System, said the office building will serve a population that is currently forced to travel outside their neighborhood for healthcare. “This medical office building will help bring much-needed primary and specialty physicians to the area.” Atlee Development is currently leasing space and is offering tenants ownership in the building. Until now, the closest medical office buildings, surgical centers and hospitals for residents of west San Antonio and Bexar County have been at least 20-minutes away in the Medical Center. Westover Baptist Medical Campus will ultimately consist of the medical office building and outpatient surgical center, with plans to add a new hospital as the demand for healthcare services in the area continues to grow.
West Bexar County is the fastest growing area in San Antonio according to a 2004 report by Metro Study. Residential growth in west Bexar County last year represented 35 percent of all homes built compared to 24-percent in the northern sector, 18 percent in the northeast and 8-percent in the northwest. The immediate population the hospital medical campus will serve is estimated to be in excess of 200,000 people. In addition, there are approximately 44,000 students and employees along the Hwy. 151 corridor from Kelly USA to 1604. The new medical campus is being built at Wiseman and Highway 151 and will ultimately comprise 40-acres.
