Prolonged PT/PTT Evaluation Now Available

Jan 24, 2014

Prothrombin time (PT) and activated partial thromboplastin time (PTT) are commonly used screening tests to assess hemostasis. Abnormal coagulation profiles are common clinical challenges for physicians. Work-up for prolonged PT and/or PTT may include a variety of assays. Performing the most efficient and cost-effective evaluation of a patient with a prolonged PT and/or PTT is a challenge for generalists and hematologists alike.

The Prolonged PT/PTT Evaluation is a new test that can be ordered by physicians to evaluate the cause of a prolonged PT and/or PTT.  The specific tests performed are selected by the pathologist to ascertain the cause of the prolonged PT/PTT in an efficient and cost-effective manner.  In any particular case, one or several of the tests listed below may be indicated.  Upon completion of the evaluation, an interpretive report will be generated by the pathologist and visible in the Physician Portal.

Possible Test Components: Thrombin Time, Hepzyme treated PT/PTT, PT/PTT Mixing Study, Lupus Anticoagulant Screen (DRVVT Screen & Confirm, STAClot LA), Specific Factor Activity & Inhibitors (Factors II, V, VII, VIII, IX, X, XI, XII), vonWillebrand factor antigen, vonWillebrand factor activity, Fibrinogen, Reptilase Time, Pre Kallikrein Screen, HMW Kininogen Screen.
