Stroke rehab services: Giving hope to stroke survivors.

Michael Vasquez wishes he’d have acted a little faster in recognizing the warning signs that he was having a stroke. He says the signs of stroke were more subtle than he expected, but when he called a friend and told her that the right side of his body “wouldn’t hold me up,” she recognized the symptom and told him to get help.

“Perhaps if I’d sought help a little quicker, the damage wouldn’t have been as much,” Vasquez says.

Even so, he’s grateful for the care he received at Baptist both during and after this life-altering event. Vasquez says the compassionate care didn’t stop in the emergency room. It went right on through to rehabilitation services.

“I was very, very lucky in my choice to come to Baptist because of the care I got here,” he says. “They tried innovative new ways to help me to learn to get back my movements. And to becoming a functioning human being again.”

“I credit them with setting the standard of care and giving me hope.”
