North Central Baptist Hospital is pampering new moms by offering free massage treatments in the hospital after delivery. Pregnancy is a time of great joy, but it can sometimes cause emotional anxiety and fatigue, not to mention stress on the body. Massage therapy is beneficial both before and after birth.  It helps relieve any discomfort in the woman’s body as well as the emotional stress that comes with mothering a newborn.

Massage for moms is offered seven days a week in the post partum unit at North Central Baptist Hospital.General concentration is on the area that bothers mothers the most such as the lower back/neck and shoulders. Each and every mom gets one of these mini massages and can have more than one. Friends and loved ones have the opportunity to buy extra massage treatments from the North Central Baptist Hospital gift shop.

Certified therapist Neva Fernandez, RMT, MTI works in the post partum unit at North Central Baptist Hospital.  “The therapeutic massage that we offer to ‘our’ moms helps to relax them and allows them to focus more on their baby,” says Fernandez. “So many women still think or have been told that they shouldn’t or cannot have a massage during pregnancy, which just isn’t true. The benefits of post partum massage are significant for both mother and baby.”
