A history of compassionate care and service
In 1903, 30 physician members of the Bexar County Medical Society joined with more than two dozen businessmen and professionals to organize the San Antonio Associated Charities. The Associated Charities then began construction of a four-story hospital on Dallas Street, the Physicians' and Surgeons' Hospital. As the community grew, so did the need for healthcare services, and the Dallas Street facility expanded and eventually became the far-reaching Baptist Health System.
Baptist Health Foundation Established
A century later, Baptist Health System was purchased by Vanguard Health Systems, a compassionate operator of hospitals and medical facilities whose headquarters are in Nashville, Tennessee.
Proceeds from the 2003 sale were used to establish the Baptist Health Foundation of San Antonio. The Foundation funds not-for-profit healthcare services and education throughout South Texas.
Tenet Healthcare Corporation assumes ownership

This combined New Tenet employs more than 100,000 people in 78 hospitals and other entities in 43 states.
