Division of Mission and Ministry

At Baptist, we believe showing our patients and families the best care includes ministering to their spiritual needs as well.

Mission and Ministry

Baptist Health System was formally affiliated with the Baptist General Convention of Texas (BGCT) for more than 50 years. In January 2003, when ownership of our healthcare system was transferred to Vanguard Health Systems, we entered into a new relationship with the BGCT.

Now, through the leadership of our Mission and Ministry Division, we are working as partners in Christian ministry with the BGCT, providing pastoral care for patients, families and employees, and practical service in our community.

The Mission and Ministry Division is also responsible for maintaining and building our relationship with the BGCT and other faith communities, and for fostering our employees’ commitment to community service.

Chaplains in service to patients and families

Our chaplains work in consultation with the entire medical team to provide holistic, heartfelt health care. They understand the essential spiritual component to your wellness and know how to deliver the compassionate care that is at the heart of Baptist.

Patients and families may choose to call on chaplains 24 hours a day, 7 days a week:

  • Before and after surgery or other serious procedures
  • When confronting new diagnosis or difficult illness
  • For help coping with fear or uncertainty
  • When concerned about the past or future, family or death
