Baptist Ranked Number 1 in San Antonio by US News & World Report

Jun 4, 2019

(San Antonio, TX) – In its “Best Hospitals” edition, US News & World Report has ranked Baptist Medical Center, No. 1 in San Antonio, and 13th among the 367 hospitals in Texas. Baptist was named by the magazine as a “Best Regional Hospital,” and earned “Honor Roll” designation, receiving the highest rating possible in the treatment of five procedures or conditions including heart failure; colon cancer surgery; chronic obstructive pulmonary disease COPD; hip replacement; and knee replacement.

“This is an outstanding achievement that reflects the intense focus on quality and service we have made on behalf of our patients,” said Matt Stone, Baptist Health System CEO. “The designation reflects a strong collaboration with our physicians to deliver exceptional outcomes for our patients.”

Since 1990 US News & World Report has published its annual ranking of America’s “Best Hospitals.” To help patients decide where to receive care, U.S. News generates hospital rankings by evaluating data on nearly 5,000 hospitals in 16 adult specialties, 9 adult procedures and conditions and 10 pediatric specialties. The methodologies used to select hospitals for the “Best Hospitals” list are largely based on objective measures such as risk-adjusted survival and readmission rates, volume, patient experience, patient safety and quality of nursing, as well as other care-related indicators. This year, more emphasis was placed on patient outcomes and patient experience measures.
