June is Alzheimer’s and Brain Awareness Month

Jun 4, 2019

Looking for an Alzheimer’s and brain health expert?

The number of Americans living with Alzheimer’s disease is quickly growing. Approximately 5.7 million Americans of all ages are currently living with Alzheimer’s including those under the age of 65. Alzheimer’s is the sixth leading cause of death in the U.S., killing more people than breast and prostate cancers combined.

Although there is no cure for the disease, early diagnosis and treatment can help individuals and their caregivers to prepare legal, financial and end-of-life arrangements while the patient is still cognitively able to make decisions. Preparations also help lift the burden for caregivers, for whom 85 percent are mostly unpaid family members and friends. Early diagnosis could also collectively save $7 trillion in health and long-term health care costs (Source: Alzheimer’s Association).

Northeast Baptist Hospital works with neurological specialists to diagnose and treat patients with Alzheimer’s disease, and help families understand what Alzheimer’s disease is and how to help their loved ones.
