Nurses bring Stations of the Cross to patients on Good Friday

For the sick and hospitalized, attending the Stations of the Cross at their Church and with their congregation is impossible. So the nurses, doctors and staff at Baptist Medical Center are doing something special for them by bringing a traveling Stations of the Cross to them.

Amparo Marles, chaplain for Baptist Medical Center, led the procession that began at the hospital entrance on Dallas Street and made its way throughout the facility halls. Prayers, meditations and readings were recited by nurses and staff in celebration of Good Friday and the Passion of Christ. The group stopped at nurses’ stations on the various floors and waiting areas including the Surgical Intensive Care Unit (ICU), Cardiovascular ICU, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, Dialysis, and Acute Rehab and others where the families of patients joined.

“We wanted to bring community and celebration for Easter to those who might be missing it because of illness,” Marles said. This is something that both Christians and non-Christians can enjoy as a part of San Antonio’s rich culture, tradition and faith. We carried a multi-denominational cross on our journey for all faiths, all patients, and so that our hardworking nurses and staff could participate,” she said.
