Students Spread Message of Hope at North Central Baptist Hospital

San Antonio, TX – January 20, 2018 - Students from Hardy Oak Elementary School’s Got HOPE Club visited North Central Baptist Hospital Saturday to spread their message of “New Year, New Hope.”

The Got HOPE Club started in 2017 to honor a former Hardy Oak student who developed cancer. “The club follows the mission to encourage and support other children with cancer and their families,” said Got HOPE Club sponsor and Hardy Oak Special Education teacher Melissa McDonald. “Our students’ hearts for loving and serving others is inspiring and such a joy to see. This is just one of the many activities these wonderful kids do.”

Hardy Oak students set up a table in the lobby of the hospital and served visitors hot chocolate and donuts. Nine-year-old Austin Vandevate got involved in the club because his brother spent a lot of time in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at North Central Baptist Hospital. “I want to help other kids who have to be in the hospital,” said Austin.

“The Got HOPE Club is an inspirational program,” said North Central Baptist Hospital President Bill Waechter. “We appreciate the message students shared with our patients and guests and thank Hardy Oak parents and teachers for helping to make this happen.”

The original club was started at Reagan High School. The Hardy Oak club currently has 40 students in grades 3rd through 5th.
