U.S. News & World Report names Baptist Health System among 'Best Regional Hospitals' in America

Aug 2, 2022

'Top performing' medical treatments at Baptist are listed in report

(San Antonio) – U.S. News & World Report, a global authority on hospital rankings and consumer advice, has named San Antonio’s Baptist Health System among Texas’ top performing hospitals in nine treatment areas including: lung cancer surgery, prostate cancer surgery, colon cancer surgery, heart attack care, heart failure treatment, diabetes care, kidney failure treatment, hip replacement surgery, and knee replacement surgery.

Baptist Health System earned the title of “Best Regional Hospital” for 2022-2023 by U.S. News & World Report. This is the highest award a hospital can earn for U.S. News’ Best Hospitals Procedures and Conditions ratings. The annual Procedures and Conditions ratings are designed to assist patients and their doctors in making informed decisions about where to receive care for challenging health conditions or elective procedures. Baptist Health System earned high performance ratings that recognized care provided by that is significantly better than the national average, as measured by factors such as patient outcomes and patient experience.

Matt Stone, CEO of Baptist Health System, said the hospitals’ recognition is a result of the staff’s commitment to placing patient care as priority No. 1. “This is important for the community to know as they count on us to keep them safe and provide them with the high quality care they deserve,” he said.

For the 2022-2023 Best Hospitals rankings and ratings, U.S. News evaluated more than 4,500 hospitals across 15 specialties and 20 procedures and conditions. Fewer than half of all hospitals received any high performing rating.

Matt Stone added that he is proud of the hospital staff who make it their mission to keep their patients safe and deliver compassionate care to every patient who walks through the hospital doors. “They take pride in their healthcare calling,” Stone said.

“When patients are considering their options for care, the Best Hospitals ratings are designed to help them identify hospitals that excel in the kind of care they may need,” said Ben Harder, chief of health analysis and managing editor at U.S. News. “A hospital that’s earned a high performing rating in a service may be a good option for patients in need of that service and their medical professionals to consider.”

The U.S. News Procedures and Conditions methodology is based entirely on objective measures of quality such as survival rates, patient experience, and how successfully each hospital helps patients get back home.
