Community helps celebrate HealthLink’s 20th Anniversary of rehabilitating San Antonians through Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy and more

A healthy and fun birthday celebration for HealthLink, the rehabilitation and fitness arm of Baptist Health System, took place April 17. Staff, patients and members celebrated with a health fair that included:

  • Zumba fitness dancing in the parking lot
  • Balloon release
  • Free health screenings (physical therapy, hearing, fitness)
  • Free five-minute chair massages
  • Food trucks with a variety of eats
  • Anniversary cake and refreshments
  • Prizes and giveaways

More than 40 lifetime members joined in honoring HealthLink, which opened with only one location in 1998. Today, HealthLink offers 16 locations throughout San Antonio and in New Braunfels with services ranging from physical and occupational therapy to speech therapy, aquatic therapy, cardiac therapy, pulmonary rehab, pelvic therapy, pediatric therapy and more. Several of HealthLink’s members are more than 90 years old. With HealthLink’s services they have overcome debilitating life events such as major surgeries, diabetes, cancer, heart disease, stroke, arthritis, obesity, back and limb injuries, and others. Armed forces veteran Larry Phelps, 80, survived open-heart surgery and now is an avid kickboxer at HealthLink. 64-year-old book author Gene Burnell survived cancer six times and is part of HealthLink’s Silver Sneakers program.
