(San Antonio) – On March 3, 2020, the first COVID-19 patient arrived in Texas, thus beginning a pandemic that spread across the country unlike any other outbreak in over a century. Baptist Health System treated one of the first COVID-positive patients arriving from the cruise ship that brought them from China to Texas for care.

On this anniversary, Baptist Health System healthcare workers and staff took time out of their day to participate in a statewide “Five Minutes of Silence” to pay their respects to the growing number of Texans who have lost their lives to the COVID-19 virus. They also showed appreciation for those in their communities who are helping end the pandemic through vaccination. Their aim was also to express gratitude for their team members who continue to work tirelessly to serve those in need as the pandemic continues.
