Baptist hospitals are named among ‘Best Hospitals in America’

North Central Baptist and Resolute Health Hospital are two of only four hospitals in Texas to be listed among the best in nation

(San Antonio, TX) – San Antonio) – North Central Baptist Hospital in Stone Oak and Resolute Health Hospital in New Braunfels, part of the Baptist Health System, are two of only four hospitals in Texas to be listed among the “Best Hospitals in America” as ranked by Money (formerly Money Magazine) and the Leapfrog Group. Money and Leapfrog collaborated for their first shared ranking of "best hospitals" to help consumers make decisions about which healthcare institutions are best for their money.

Matt Stone, CEO of Baptist Health System, said the hospitals’ consistent track record for safety recognizes the staff’s continuous commitment to placing their patients’ safety at the forefront of their care. “This is important for the community to know as they count on us to keep our patients, staff and physicians safe every day,” he said.

Hospitals named as a “Best Hospital in America” are selected for their systems and record for delivering high quality patient care and for preventing medical errors, infections and harm to patients.

The inaugural list was released July 6 and can be found in full here. Hospitals were eligible for the list if they earned an A letter grade on the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade assessment for fall 2021. Both North Central Baptist Hospital and Resolute Health Hospital have consistently earned A grades from Leapfrog for the past several years. North Central Baptist Hospital received its seventh consecutive A grade since 2019 and Resolute Health Hospital received its fifth consecutive A grade since 2020. Last year both hospitals also received the Leapfrog Group’s national “Top Hospital Award” and were the only two hospitals in Texas to receive the award in the Top General Hospital category.

The Leapfrog Group is an independent national watchdog organization committed to health care quality and safety. The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade is a letter grade assigned to all general hospitals across the country and updated every six months.

The authors of the “Best Hospitals in America” program said: “Hospitals play a crucial role in keeping us healthy even if its’ not exactly fun when you have to make an unplanned visit to one. Best Hospitals’ methodology:

To compile its new list of the top hospitals in the country in partnership with Money, the Leapfrog Group used data from the 39 performance measures in the seven different categories in its 2021 hospital survey. Those categories are inpatient care management, adult and pediatric complex surgeries, pediatric care, medication safety, maternity care, outpatient procedures and infections. To qualify for the list, eligible hospitals were required to carry an A letter grade on the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade assessment for fall 2021. Hospitals were also required to meet a qualitative assessment of excellence, and were disqualified if they exceeded national mortality rates for heart attacks, heart failure, pneumonia, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease or coronary bypass surgery or if they earned a C or worse on the 2022 spring Safety Grade assessment.
