Cereal Eating Contest Kicks off Healthy Over Hungry® Cereal Drive

Because Hunger Doesn’t Take a Summer Vacation

A cereal eating contest took place Friday, June 1 pitting employees at the six Baptist Health System hospitals, Baptist M&S Imaging Centers and the Baptist School of Health Professions against one another to highlight a serious problem in San Antonio. One in four children here experiences hunger. During the summer months the problem is magnified when children don’t have access to school breakfast and lunch programs.

A total of eight Baptist teams competed against each other in a tag team race to be the first to finish a box of Honey Nut Cheerios. Seven people from each team (or a total of 56 people) downed a fresh bowl of cereal, one after another, until the box was finished. First, second and third place winners were awarded trophies along with bragging rights.

Employees from all Baptist Health System affiliates donated cereal during the Healthy Over Hungry cereal drive week that ran from between June 1, and Friday, June 8. A total of more than 72,000 servings of healthy cereal was collected and donated to the San Antonio Food Bank and just under 2,000 servings of cereal was donated to the New Braunfels Food Bank through collections at Resolute Health Hospital.
