New Baptist Neighborhood Hospital in Converse now open to serve community

Aug 3, 2023

San Antonio, TX)  – Baptist Health System’s newest Baptist Neighborhood Hospital is now open in Converse at 6491 Woodlake Parkway bringing exceptional care to people who work and live nearby. The hospital proudly opened its latest facility this summer to serve the Converse community and surrounding area.

Baptist Neighborhood hospitals, small-format facilities, offer similar service lines as traditional hospitals, but with a smaller footprint. The hospital offers patients speed, convenience, ease of access and value-based, high-quality comprehensive care. Patients have access to enhanced specialty care through direct integration with Baptist Health System’s large network of acute care hospitals and specialists.

“Baptist Neighborhood Hospitals often offer the closest access to care when every minute counts in an emergency,” said Matt Stone, Baptist Health System Group CEO. “Whether emergency services or inpatient care is needed, our Baptist Neighborhood Hospitals deliver the same high-quality, compassionate care that our patients trust at our acute care hospitals.”

Baptist Neighborhood Hospitals began serving San Antonio patients in 2011, when the first location opened on the south side. Today, the network includes hospitals in Westover Hills, Kelly, Schertz, Thousand Oaks, Hausman, Overlook, and Zarzamora, as well as emergency departments in Shavano Park and coming soon to Converse.

A recent patient at Baptist Neighborhood Hospital in Schertz praised the medical team, after being treated for coughing, congestion and body aches. “Within less than an hour after arriving home, I felt 99.9 percent better! I can't thank the doctor, nurse and staff of this awesome medical team enough for bringing relief so quickly to me!”

The quality of care delivered at our neighborhood hospitals has earned national distinction. Baptist Neighborhood Hospitals have received Press Ganey recognition – a prestigious award honoring healthcare facilities that have reached the 95th percentile for patient experience, engagement or clinical quality performance. Baptist Neighborhood Hospital-Shavano Park is the most recent recipient, having been named a Press Ganey Guardian of Excellence Award® winner in 2021.

Baptist Health System partners with Texas-based Emerus Holdings Inc. to operate the hospitals, which has allowed for geographic footprint growth of more than 100 square miles.

Vic Schmerbeck, CEO of Emerus, credits the Baptist Health System leadership and its teams for the success of the healthcare model, which Emerus created and launched 17 years ago in 2006.

“We serve as a support mechanism for the success of this incredibly innovative brand of Baptist,” Schmerbeck said. “Our care model aligns with Baptist’s. We are great partners in a shared vision of providing the right care at the right time – at the right place and at the right cost.”

To date, more than one million patients have gone through the doors of the neighborhood hospitals in San Antonio. A 10th location is in the planning stages.
