Inpatient Amputee Rehabilitation
The loss of a limb is a traumatic event in the life of any person. Baptist Health System is committed to providing the most comprehensive amputee and vascular services in South Texas. Baptist Inpatient Rehab is the only CARF accredited Amputee Specialty Centers Program in Texas outside the VA. Your care will be customized to reflect your needs and choices.
To make a referral or for more information, call 29-REHAB (297-3422).
At Baptist, we know that amputee rehabilitation is different from all other types of rehab. It is about building your life in a new way that allows you the most freedom and mobility possible.
The amputee rehab program focuses on personalized, goal-oriented therapy that allows you and your family to prioritize and achieve your goals for mobility and independence.
We will teach you how to:
- Use amputation-specific equipment
- Increase your strength, endurance, flexibility, and range of motion
- Properly care for your skin
- Complete self-care tasks safely, including dressing, bathing and transferring to and from the toilet or shower
- Undergo prosthetic and orthotic assessments for discharge needs
- Transfer to and from the car
Baptist Health System also offers access to Peer Mentors – people who have also survived an amputation. The peer mentor can be an excellent help in providing insight and hope for the future. For more information, call Elizabeth Johnson at (210) 297-5192.
