Dietetic Internship
The Baptist Health System Dietetic Internship program is a post-baccalaureate, supervised practice experience that allows successful participants to be eligible to take the examination for Registered Dietitians upon completion. Dietetic Interns must also attend the required didactic class portion of this internship. Supervised practice clinical and management/leadership rotations will take place within the Baptist Health System hospitals. Supervised practice community rotations will take place in various sites in the San Antonio Community. The program accepts 8–10 interns each year.
Program Tracks
- Non-Degree Track: Applicants must have completed (or be in the process of completing) a master's degree in addition to all other stated application requirements. The program begins in early August and ends mid-May each year, totaling 10 months.
- Graduate Degree Track: Students will pursue a graduate degree through the University of Houston Online master's in nutrition (or equivalent degree) while participating in rotations. The program starts in early August and spans four semesters (fall, spring, summer, fall) ending in December of the following year, a total of 17 months.

- Management/ Hospital Foodservice

- HEB

"Effective January 1, 2024, the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) will require a minimum of a master’s degree to be eligible to take the credentialing exam to become a registered dietitian nutritionist (RDN). In order to be approved for registration examination eligibility with a bachelor’s degree, an individual must meet all eligibility requirements and be submitted into CDR’s Registration Eligibility Processing System (REPS) before 12:00 midnight Central Time, December 31, 2023. In addition, CDR requires that individuals complete coursework and supervised practice in program(s) accredited by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND). Graduates who successfully complete the ACEND-accredited [program type] program at [Institution name] are eligible to [apply to an ACEND-accredited supervised practice program/apply to take the CDR credentialing exam to become an RDN].
