Mark Gunst, MD, is board certified in general surgery and surgical critical care. He received his medical degree from Texas Tech School of Medicine in Lubbock. Dr. Gunst has more than 20 years of diverse trauma and emergency surgery experience and has served 13 years active duty with the United States Air Force. As an active duty physician, Dr. Gunst practiced general surgery, trauma and surgical critical care. In addition, he deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan as medical director and chief of trauma and emergency surgery. Dr. Gunst has authored, co-authored, and published multiple scientific papers based on trauma and critical care.

Dr. Gunst was wonderful! I have had consultations with several surgeons, and from the moment Dr. Gunst walked in, my husband and I were both sure that he was the one to go with. He was in no hurry to get to the next patient, very kind, compassionate and patient with all of our questions, fully explained my situation and his recommended treatment, timeline for recovery, etc. I have an inguinal hernia and do not want to use synthetic mesh, and he didn't even hesitate or try and persuade me to consider other options. He is clearly very familiar and comfortable with many different procedures and options, and instantly had the perfect recommendation for me. We were so reassured by the whole visit experience that we scheduled surgery before leaving, and I have already made a recommendation to a friend as well.

She is so cheerful and bubbly, easy to access, compassionate, a good listener, and quick to help with questions or concerns, even personally tracking down some information I couldn't get from the hospital. I found Dr Gunzt to be very caring and he listened he also stated since I was sent to him by the ER Dr. He did understand why the ER Dr did not admit me to the hospital and call him. He set me to get another test to be sure surgery was needed since I am allergic to narcotics but we have take the long route and wait for the first opening on Aug 3. I feel fully confident with this surgeon.
