About Ann Straight
Dr. Ann Straight is board certified in Pediatric Endocrinology and General Pediatrics. She graduated from the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in 1998 and was direct commissioned into the United States Army. Dr. Straight completed her pediatric internship, residency, and pediatric endocrinology fellowship at Walter Reed Army Medical Center. She served as a staff pediatric endocrinologist at Walter Reed until 2005 then was transferred to Brooke Army Medical Center to serve as Assistant Chief and, later, Chief of the Pediatric Endocrinology Department. In 2011, Dr. Straight transitioned to the United States Army Reserves where she served as Deputy Chief of Clinical Services for a medical backfill battalion and joined a civilian endocrinology practice in San Antonio. She completed her 20 year military career in 2018 retiring with the rank of Colonel.
Dr. Straight has been married to her husband for twenty-two years and they are proud parents of two children. In her leisure time, she enjoys spending time with her family and friends, running, playing games, watching football, going to the beach, reading, and watching movies.

This was our first visit to this practice and with Dr. Straight. From the moment she walked into the exam room to the moment she walked us to the doors leading back to the lobby, she was incredibly professional and warm. We've waited 3 long months to be able to see her, due to limited appointment availability, but the concerns about my son that brought us to her have been something I've been monitoring and worrying about for over 2 years. That being said, my "Mama Heart" felt relieved and calmed as she plainly explained highly complex medical topics to my son and I with such ease and simplicity. Two things that I found particularly helpful was her use of visuals and the way that she walked my son and I thru his historical growth/weight chart and provided an easy-to-understand overview and analysis. Lastly, I want to express my appreciation for the manner in which Dr. Straight prepared my son for the physical exam portion of the visit. She explained the purpose of the exam, how it would be conducted, vocalized every step in the process as she was conducting the exam, showed respect towards him by turning around while he undressed and informing him first before she turned back around to exam him, she made him feel safe by asking me to "guard the door"; the whole experience was just so gentle and he felt safe. Please let Dr. Straight know that all of her efforts to make the patient experience excellent have not gone unnoticed, nor are they unappreciated. This is easily the best experience we have ever had.

I was very impressed with how Dr. Straight handled sensitive topics with a 17yo boy and his parents. She used wonderful discretion, sensitivity and care while explaining why his PCP referred him and what his doctor may have been thinking. She explained what she was going to test for and asked if we preferred to know NOW what the possible outcomes could be or if we preferred to wait until the lab report came back to discuss. I really appreciated how well she preserved our sense of agency and our son's dignity in what could have been a very uncomfortable appointment.

Dr. Straight is phenomenal. We saw her years ago at a previous location and when our son's pedi recommended we revisit with an endo he provided us her information to make sure we were back with her. She is the most caring doctor. She really takes the time to explain things on a level we and even our son understands. She made our son feel comfortable even when it was a bit of an uncomfortable situation. She helped ease some of our concerns and I feel confident in her opinions as we move forward with determining next steps for our son's delayed growth. We are very happy with the staff. When I called back in shortly after our visit, and had to hang up before my call was answered by the correct part, I was called back within 5 minutes. Whenever I have an issue that I need assistance with from the office staff, they are always prompt and courteous in resolving the issue. This was the major reason that we changed providers and this level of service from the office staff reinforces that we made the correct decision.

My son has been seeing Dr. Straight since he was in 3rd grade and he is now a freshman in high school. My son started growing rapidly at an early age, has an enlarged pituitary gland (but not acromegalia - amen). She has provided us the best follow-up, monitoring and referrals to manage our son's overall health. We even followed her from her previous practice, because she knows my son's entire history and is committed to his health and well-being. Her referrals have been to the best doctors in San Antonio. Dr. Straight is personable, authentic, and truly cares about each and everyone of her patients.

I really like Dr. Straight I just wish there was a follow up visit instead of a phone call to explain test results. It's hard to get information after tests are taken if it is decided there is nothing that can be done about growth, however both the doctor and physicians asst. are very helpful and extremely pleasant.

We love Dr Straight and followed her over from the DGD Clinic. Her new office with you is so easy to deal with for appointments, etc and the employees are so much friendlier. Your office is a longer drive but it's definitely worth it compared to going to DGD.
