About Sonja Brune
Sonja D. Brune, MSN, APRN, CCNS, CHFN, AACC, FHFSA, HF-Cert is a Heart Failure Practitioner trained to help manage heart failure in hopes of feeling better, whether or not heart function improves. Sonja has been practicing as a registered nurse in an intensive care unit in 1989, and quickly developed a love for everything related to heart disease. She began working for a cardiologist two years later and soon enrolled in the Master of Science in Nursing Degree program at University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio where her training was in acute and critical-care of the adult with a primary study focus in heart failure. Since obtaining her advanced practice license and passing the Acute/Critical Care boards in 1999, she has devoted her career to caring for patients with varying degrees of heart failure. Her main objective is to help improve the overall well-being of her patients through comprehensive review of their medical history, individualized medication regimens, extensive education and counseling, and easy access to care in her clinic. Her approach to accomplishing this is to work together with the patient and loved ones to determine their wishes, obstacles that can be overcome, and teach them how to manage a chronic illness with proper medications, lifestyle changes, and early recognition of flare ups. When Sonja is not teaming up with heart failure patients to improve their symptoms and survival, she enjoys a variety of outdoor activities with her husband, Will, who is also a nurse, and rescue dog, Ranger.

I've never even doubted or questioned ANY of their safety practices and standards at any of the three different locations I've been treated at. Everything is always perfectly carried out where sanitation and attentiveness to safety and cleanliness is concerned. Never have I walked into the office or exam rooms and found remmanents or anything on the floor or counter tops from prior patient exams took place. And even the office area desks and countertops are clutter free and appear to be very organized. And this area is festive and tastefully decorated for the approaching holidays. Again ....

I would sing from the highest mountain at the top of my lungs that Sonja Brune was sent by God personally to care for me. She ALWAYS goes above and beyond her responsibilities as my primary cardiac care provider in answering, researching on the spot, and excellent issue resolution with any and EVERY concerns where my physical and even mental health needs addressing. I always look forward to my visits with her as she genuinely loves what she does and is just so damn good at it.

Matter of fact upon completing my visit while exiting the office I wished them happy holidays and an "I love y'all" slipped from my tongue before I even realized it. Vanessa (Nurse) is wonderful. She goes out of her way, even on non visit days, to help me w/ RXs.Sonja (APN) is fantastic. Very caring and knowledgeable. Went over & beyond to make sure my future health will maintain at an optimal level. Dr. Shah is great as well. Glad I stayed and xferred to his care. I'm very confident with him. As I was riding the elevator a couple was riding with me and we talked about seeing the cardiologist and they indicated that Dr. Shah was the ladies doctor and her comment to me was he is "very" good. An excellent doctor. She evidently has had more severe issues and her husband was very complimentary of him as well. He has treated my husband is now seeing my son as we are a family of BP issues. So my sincere thanks to him and all the staff. He is held in high regard by others as well.

Sonja was very welcoming. She checked my BP it was high and she wanted to know what was going on. I explained she offered advice on exercising, offered where to get a new BP cuff. We verified all meds I was taking. We talked about my leg cramps and here again she recommended specific exercises and offered how to add flavor to the tonic water I drink for my cramps. It was a great visit I did not feel rushed or judged.

Upon arrival I checked in I had filled out all pertinent forms online. Filled out my COVID form, sat down and I was called in almost right away. I was thanked by the receptionist for having filled out the forms ahead of time. It was easy peasy!

Sonja has been such a blessing to our family. My mother has some unique health conditions. Sonja takes the time to do additional research to help her. She also tries her best to take all of my mom's health issues into account when prescribing medications or treatment plans. She always explains things in a way that is easy to understand and she makes herself to available to answer any questions that we have at any time in between appointments. She is our favorite doctor and the best provider my mom has. We trust her completely and whenever my mother has questions about a medication or a medical concern, she always has me check with Sonja first.

My mother, Carol, is elderly and disabled and has a very hard time getting to her appointments sometimes. We were late getting to Sonja this week. But she didn't send us away. She still fit us into her schedule and didn't rush us or make us feel bad about being late.
