Dr. Carlos R. Carretero completed his medical training with New York Medical College, after attending to the Universidad Autonoma of Guadalajara, Mexico. It was a great learning experience, combining the training from Mexico and completing my last year of medical in New York City in 2001, "the contrast of both settings gave me a broader perspective in medicine, and understanding of cultural diversity, and empathy to my patients".
After medical school he completed his residency in internal medicine with the Ponce School of Medicine, and started as a medical consultant with the Mayaguez Advance Radiotherapy Group, and opened his private medical practice providing care to the patients of the west coast of Puerto Rico. Dr. Carretero is board certified in Internal Medicine since 2005 and recertified in 2015. He relocated to San Antonio in January 2014, practicing at the Nix Medical Center until 2019. He is a dedicated Internal Medicine Physician with a proven track record of accurately diagnosing patients and providing successful treatments. He is fluent in English and Spanish."I believe that the role of the internist is not just diagnosing and treating, but to orchestrate their medical priorities, especially with patients with multiple conditions. I have been in San Antonio for almost 6 years and love its people, their warmth, and look forward to continue on their care and have a positive impact on the community".

I've been to the office several times in the last couple of months and I can't remember having to wait any longer than 10 or 15 minutes, which is completely understandable. They seem very organized and empathetic and you can't ask for more than that when you're feeling poorly or need to address a health issue

I always hear the doctor loud and clear. I have difficulty hearing well so he speaks to me in a decent tone that I can hear him. He doesn't get frustrated or get loud when he doesn't hear me or if I can't hear him. He's becoming more of my friend first but a pleasure being my doctor. I hope to see him year after year. One day I'll get a hearing aid. Then, I'll be able to even better conversations with him. But it's always great to see his smile every 4 months.

Dr. Carretero has always gone out of his way to explain procedures, test results, and care options. He has listened to my comments, concerns and to me describe my medical history...and recalls it during future visits (that's how I know he's actually taking notes and pays attention) when relevant. He takes the time to review test results and will find ways of explaining the procedure and results in a language I can understand. I feel that my treatment is collaborative and that my feedback matters.

She made sure that I was at ease being there. We spent a few minutes talking about my pups. She was trying to make me at ease since my BP was elevated. I did explain that it alwasy has gone up when I go see a doctor. She stated that she would let the doctor know and that he would recheck it when he came in, which he did.

Scheduling was very simple and the actual visit was met with no wait times and I believe even before my appointment I was in with the nurse. He understood my dietary restrictions and was very easy to talk to while sending medications immediately.
