About Steve Chen
Dr. Steve Chen, a board-certified general surgeon, considers it a privilege to care for patients. Informed by nearly 15 years of surgical experience, Dr. Chen takes a steady, prudent approach to treatment. He accepts patients of all ages (excluding children who are five or younger) with cases of varying complexity. As a husband and father of two young children, he understands firsthand the anxiety families experience when a loved one is ill. Based on this understanding, Dr. Chen offers emotional support when possible and prioritizes promptly communicating with patients and their loved ones. Dr. Chen served in the United States Air Force for 20 years before joining South Texas Surgical Group. During his active duty years, Dr. Chen served as the Chief of General Surgery at Offutt Air Force Base (Omaha, NE) and Chief Medical Officer of the Trauma Medicine Branch at the Defense Medical Readiness Training Institute (Fort Sam Houston, San Antonio, TX). He was also deployed twice, once to Kyrgyzstan and later to Qatar. Additionally, Dr. Chen led the Mobile Field Surgical Team with the Navy Seals during operations in the Arabian Sea.
