About Baptist Health System
Baptist Health System has a rich legacy rooted in Central and South Texas. It began in 1903 when the Physicians’ and Surgeons’ Hospital opened in San Antonio alongside its first nursing school. In 1948, the hospital was renamed Baptist Memorial Hospital when the Southern Baptist Convention assumed leadership, and by 1952, the Baptist General Convention of Texas had taken ownership. The system grew to meet evolving community needs through decades of expansion and innovation, such as introducing one of Texas’ first centrally air-conditioned hospital buildings. Baptist Health System continues to build on that foundation by combining experience, compassion and community-focused care to guide your journey to better health.
