What is a Maternal Fetal Care provider?
Maternal fetal care providers care for high-risk pregnancies. Maternal fetal care providers receive training and certification in order to care for high-risk pregnancy patients. Patients can be considered high-risk if they have chronic health conditions, carrying multiples, over the age of 35 and more.
Meet the Team
Dr. Akwugo “Ada” Eziefule
Dr. Akwugo “Ada” Eziefule affectionately known as “Dr. Ez” specializes in Maternal Fetal Medicine, providing care to mothers and children with high-risk conditions during pregnancy.
Dr. Eziefule was born and raised in Houston, Texas and came back as soon as she could. Many adventures have led her all around the country, but proudly calls Texas home and is glad to be back serving its great communities. She is a first-generation Nigerian- American and finds great interest in high-risk pregnancies because as the oldest of four, she watched her single mother struggle with high-risk pregnancies.
Dr. Marissa Valencia Ylagan
Dr. Marissa Valencia Ylagan provides her expertise in perinatal medicine to women in San Antonio and the surrounding communities. She obtained her M.D. from Uniformed Services University in Bethesda, Maryland. Following her residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology, Dr. Ylagan completed her Fellowship in Maternal Fetal Medicine at the University of California San Diego.
Additionally, Dr. Ylagan served on active duty in the United States Air Force for 10 years. During this time, she was the Division Director of Maternal Fetal Medicine at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth in Virginia, as well as the Chief of Maternal Fetal Medicine at San Antonio Military Medical Center. After completing her active duty service, she was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal.
Dr. Ylagan has co-authored several publications and has been recognized for excellence in teaching, receiving the ACOG Mentor of the Year award and accolades for medical student education.
